ListenUp and Industry Partners Create Room of Magic Entertainment Theater at The Children’s Hospital in Denver

September 1, 2007 -

Denver, CO - After more than three years of planning, design and integration, the latest Room of Magic theater from the Elf Foundation will debut in September with the opening of The Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. This will mark the 65th Room of Magic theater to open in North America for the foundation, and features an impressive digital cinema in addition to a state-of-the-art video gaming system. With high definition capabilities, the teens at Denver Children’s Hospital will enjoy an incredible cinematic experience.

The local Project Manager for this latest Room of Magic theater was none other than the highly regarded retail and custom installation firm, ListenUp, who have been a mainstay in the Denver metropolitan area for decades. Phillipe Muths, of ListenUp, acted as lead engineer and designer for the entire theater project. Joining the Elf Foundation in support of ListenUp’s efforts to create a multipurpose entertainment and theater experience for the children’s in-patient population was Runco International, Sonance, Stewart Filmscreen, Crestron, Denon, Liberty Wire & Cable, Furman Sound, Chief Manufacturing, Middle Atlantic Products, VizionWare, Samsung and Microsoft Xbox 360.

“We are honored to support the Elf Foundation and The Children’s Hospital of Denver in creating a Room of Magic theater for the kids,” said Walt Stinson, CEO of ListenUp. “We’re proud to be associated with this wonderful gift to our city and are committed to keep bringing the magic of music and film to the special children at The Children’s Hospital.”

The Children’s Hospital is due to open to patients September 29th and is part of the vast medical complex on Fitzsimon’s Medical Campus. The proximity of The Children's Hospital to the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center will allow for greater collaboration in care and research.

“We were excited to be asked to partner with The Children’s Hospital in Denver and play a small role in their efforts to create the world’s finest children’s medical facility,” said Doug Weinstein, president of the Elf Foundation. “In teaming with ListenUp and our corporate sponsors, we knew we would be able to create an incredible cinematic experience in a friendly and contemporary setting that will serve the children well during their stay at the hospital.”

The theater features a Runco International digital projection system featuring DLP™ technology, providing a vivid high-definition picture which projects onto a Stewart Filmscreen motorized filmscreen. An advanced in-wall speaker system supplied by Sonance creates an exhilarating surround sound experience, driven to cinematic levels by the electronics provided by Denon. A Microsoft Xbox 360 featuring wireless controls provides the backbone for the video gaming system, while the entire entertainment theater is controlled via a wall-mounted touch screen supplied by the automation company, Crestron.

At the end of a tough day, the inpatient population of The Children’s Hospital will have a private entertainment experience to relieve some of the boredom and tediousness of their stay. It will be a magical experience that will bring some much needed laughter and joy to some special kids.
