Runco's 2006 CES 8-Ball Charity Event
January 10, 2006 - Hollywood, CA
A yearly event that is always much anticipated takes place at the Consumer Electronics Show held in early January in Las Vegas, Nevada. At the annual Runco International party, held the past few years at The Beach, Sam Runco takes on all challengers at 8-ball to benefit the non-profit charity, Elf Foundation.
"We started this thing about four years ago," said Sam Runco, CEO of Runco International, the acknowledged leader in home theater display technology. "I said that if anyone could beat me in a game of pool, we'd donate $500 to Elf. As it turns out, there are always a few who beat me through the course of 2-3 hours of shooting pool and we're always thrilled to present Elf with a check for $2,000."
Runco International has been the leading corporate sponsor for the Elf Foundation since it's inception in 2001. The yearly 8-ball tournament helps kick off the New Year for the foundation and continues to bring awareness to the foundation's mission.
"Sam's always good to throw a few games to make sure we hit that $2,000 mark," joked Elf founder, Doug Weinstein. "We're all about tradition and every year Runco comes through for us. It's a good omen for what is shaping up to be a fabulous year for the foundation. We'll complete our 50th Room of Magic project, open two exciting "Signature Theaters", and celebrate our 5th year anniversary."
